Brief of Chrome Productions

Chrome productions was a company I looked at during last year at University whilst I was looking for certain jobs to do with extreme sports as that’s what I wanted to do at the time last year during BBC production. I found Chrome productions and spoken to one of the colleagues who worked there asking for some work experience.
He said he couldn’t offer any at the moment due to there being none available but once there were some he would let me know.
He later emailed me saying I could be a runner on a music video and I happily accepted.
The music video was for Andy Burrows, who was the drummer out of rasorlight.
On this day I had to go and get lunch for all the crew and make sure everyone had a period to eat before getting on to the next shots after lunch.
I was also in charge of the music so that Andy could play and lip sync to the track so there were no mistakes when editing the music video. There was one scene at the end which involved a lot of extras to the video. I had to be behind the stage giving instructions to the extras when and where they could go when the director shouted action. I had a walkie talkie to know when the AD shouted action so then I told people behind the curtain when to go.
I also with another runner had to set up a set for the music video so that the characters who were judges were sat behind a table to make the theatre look like they were holding an audition.
After doing the music video shoot I then got an email asking if I wanted to help out on another shoot which was a short film. The short film entailed of  boy from the 80s who found a rubix cube and could so the puzzle unlike the bullies at school. I again was a runner at this production and my main job this time was focusing on food and trying to look after the rest of the team whilst they carried on working. There were two days of this shoot one was at a local school in Notting Hill when the other was a house in Ladbroke Grove. It was very interesting and a again I have not worked in this area of field before. So again I got to see first hand of what it was like for an independent short film.
This has helped me this year with my project as I know what things I need to look out for or accomplish before I begin shooting my film.

A quick brief of OBS

Olympic Broadcasting Services – OBS

Two weeks during the Olympics

The Olympic Broadcasting services is a very big company which does take a very long time to gather new crew members from all over the world.
I had a BTP – broadcast training programme during September 2011. There I learnt the ways of broadcasting sports. They gave us a few books containing all the information about the Olympics in  London and also how to broadcast sport.
There was a long waiting period to find out whether I was accepted as a support services assistant.
I got the email and was thrilled but had so much to do in order to become a support services assistant a.k.a runner.
I had to fill out a form with all my details in it so they could get the correct uniform size for me and to add on my accreditation. (Look at an older post on my blog about the accreditation). It was very exciting as this is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
I was a runner in the Excel centre and I had to do many jobs in supporting the rest of the crew. When we had some spare time we were allowed to go and see some games in the Excel.
Whilst working at the Olympics I kept thinking to myself that I was so lucky to be apart of the games. It will stay with me for the rest of my life.
I have learnt so much in sports broadcasting and it was a different thing for me to be apart of. Since I knew a lot in commercials, TV, Film I thought it was really good I could broaden my knowledge even more by being part of the biggest sport event in history and see how the OBS crew film the Olympics.

Work Experience List

Here is the list of where I have been working in 2012 and 2013:

Sonny London Productions

Framestore

Chrome Productions

Olympic Broadcasting Services - OBS

750 MPH

Skyfall - VFX by Framestore

Just wanted to post this because I think the effects are AMAZING!

A Brief description of what I did at Sonny London

Sonny London

May 2012 – September 2012

I started work experience in Sonny during the middle of May. I did various task and jobs around the office and outside around the Soho area going to different production companies delivering hard drives and collecting items to be given back to the office. I had two weeks of work experience and during my second week of work experience I was asked by the co founder of Sonny – Helen Kenny if I wanted to work for the summer period, paid work and I said yes!
When I started working paid work I found that I was part of the team and everyone who I was working with said I was part of the team too.
Again I carried out the same tasks which I did throughout my two weeks of work experience but now I was asked to do more things which were more of importance such as creating showreels for clients and sorting out the Sonny website and ordering stuff and make sure they come before a certain date.
With the new stuff I was doing I found that it helped my confidence hugely especially with answering the telephone. I did struggle to answer the telephone when I first started at Sonny but after a while I began to build up my confidence and answer the calls. With that problem out of the way I had no problem answering and making telephone calls to people.
Because of answering the telephone at Sonny I can now phone anyone without any anxiety effects on the side which has helped me enormously. Especially because I want to be a producer!

A brief of working at Framestore

Framestore

September 2012 – Present

Again like Sonny I started work at Framestore doing a weeks worth of work experience. In this week of work experience I found it was a very different experience to what I had at Sonny. In Framestore it is mainly in house jobs and tasks that I had to do. I made cups of tea and coffee and sent them to different VFX suites and colour suites.
Unlike Sonny, Framestore is a very big office and needs a lot of runners to cover jobs and tasks.
Framestore is a very well known company and has a lot of people coming in and out of the office everyday. This shows that you are on your toes all the time at Framestore. When I was doing work experience there I decided to wear some stupid shoes which made my feet bleed like mad!!! It just shows you how important runners are to the media industry.
I also went on runs around the Soho area and because I did many runs when I was at Soho I knew my way around easily and because Framestore is more in Oxford circus rather than Soho, I learned even more places around the West End.
Framestore asked me to have a job after a week of work experience. When my boss asked me if I wanted it I was so excited and thrilled, it made me have so much motivation. I have learnt so much whilst at Framestore. I didn’t really know much about visual effects until I came to Framestore.
I have made so many new friends and they have all told me what they want to go into.
I have learnt the way post production places work in comparison to production companies. The type of equipment they have at Framestore at first hit me with confusion but after a while I am starting to understand what equipment they use etc.
As a runner in Framestore we have to show our professionalism and great clients to the welcoming place of Framestore.
I have learnt not only skills from a technical and media side but also life skills which will help me on the way.
I have become much more confidant whilst working at Framestore due to the help of answering telephone calls at Sonny.
Framestore helps you reach the goal you want to and you have so much support around you.
One of the managing directors of Framestore said to the runners team that we are one of the most important keys to the film industry and again that just increased my willpower and motivation to go to where I want to be.
